I’m 40 y/o and I’m so happy to hear conversations like this one and many I’ve heard on this podcast. I grew up Muslim in the US and wasn’t taught Quran or ANYTHING about Islamic history. My dad is/was a revert Muslim and my mom was a very young mom and so neither of them really understood Islam themselves. Sometimes I feel cheated that I wasn’t raised with community, didn’t have the gift of the Quran and struggled big time with my Muslim identity. But, I ask Allah to look upon my parent with favor because I don’t know why they didn’t focus on our Islamic identity. Maybe they did as best as they could. The world wasn’t in its social media age yet. But even though I’m no longer considered youth in Islam I’m still thinking of how I can benefit this ummah until I’m no longer here and I’ve now made the Quran my life companion. May Allah bless the youth and all generations of Muslims who are alive now and will come in the future.
